INSTITUTION
TÖMER is a research and application centre under the administration of Ankara University Rectorship. Founded in 1984 as a language centre, TÖMER assumed the title of Turkish and Foreign Language Research and Application Centre with TÖMER Regulation dated 07.12.2001; according to Item 7 of Higher Education Act, TÖMER is under the administration of Ankara University Rectorship, serving higher education purposes.
In accordance with bilateral agreements carried out by the Turkish Republic Government, TÖMER collaborates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, various units of universities and other public and private institutions in the teaching of Turkish and foreign languages and runs educational, application, research and publication activities, as well as promotional activities for the Turkish language and Turkish culture.
Scientific meetings and publications consolidate TÖMER’s institutional identity. Currently, TÖMER corresponds with hundreds of Turkology institutions around the world and is able to follow latest developments in the teaching of foreign languages worldwide.
TÖMER organizes scientific meetings and issues books and scientific periodicals, all of which highlight TÖMER’s identity as a research and application centre.
TÖMER’s institutional structure rests on Central Directorate that runs administrative activities, and related Branches. Central TÖMER and related Branches cooperate to run TÖMER’s activities. Central organs included Central Committee and the Central Director. Central Directorate also includes chairmanships for foreign language taught at TÖMER. TÖMER Branches, on the other hand, include Branch Committee and Branch Director.
TÖMER is an institution run on revolving fund basis.
