FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSES FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES
KPDS (Test for Civil Servants) PREPARATION COURSES
These courses are organised for English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Greek, Bulgarian, Arabic and Chinese languages. Those wishing to attend these courses first take a placement test and are directed one of three levels in KPDS courses.
ÜDS (University Language Test) PREPARATION COURSES
These courses are organised for English, French and German languages. The course content covers work lists for Science, Social and Medical sections, as well as exercises for different question types. There are either intensive (1 month, 40 hours) or normal (2 months, 48 hours) programmes.
YDS (Foreign Language Test) PREPARATION COURSES
These courses are for those aiming to enter language departments of universities and they are organised in English, French and German languages. Learners wishing to attend these courses are required to complete intermediate level. Courses start in September and end in June. Learners may choose between a Turkish and foreign language course set and a foreign-language-only set.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) PREPARATION COURSES
Courses for the TOEFL consists of two separate sets: normal (4 months, 96 hours) and intensive (2 months, 80 hours). Learners wishing to attend these courses are required to take a placement test.
Lesson content includes a revision of grammar structures for the “Structure and Written Expression” section. Then, activities for listening, reading and writing sections follow. The TOEFL is a computer-based test. Therefore, TOEFL courses in TÖMER are given in classes with computers and TOEFL software.w.
TRANSLATION COURSES
Learners who have completed intermediate level can attend translation courses. Translation courses consist of 3 levels and there are both intensive (40 hours a month, a total of three months) and intensive (48 hours a month, a total of six months) courses.
COURSES FOR HIGH SCHOOL PREPARATION CLASSES
Students who have entered Anatolian high schools or private schools and who do not want to attend the prep class for one year attend TÖMER’s courses. These courses are organised for English, French and German languages; learners are required to complete intermediate level to attend these courses. Course content includes grammar, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing and speaking activities.
PREPARATORY COURSES FOR GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
These courses are for those who would like to attend language tests for graduate programmes and research assistants; courses are organised for English, French and German languages. Learners are required to complete intermediate level to attend these courses. Course content is similar to that for KPDS courses.
SPEAKING CLASSES
Speaking classes are organised for English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Dutch, modern Greek and Bulgarian languages. Learners are required to complete intermediate or advanced level to attend these courses. These monthly courses are minimum 2 hours a week; the number of class hours in a week can be increased upon request.
DELF (Diplôme Elémentaire de La Langue Française)
DELF is a test given by the French Ministry of Education; the diploma documents that the holder knows French at basic level. A total of 400-450 hours is essential to prepare for the test. Learners wishing to attend these courses are required to take a placement test and prove that they are at Intermediate 5 level.
For those wishing to receive Level 1 DELF, the course content includes reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing and speaking. The programme covers four units. Holders of Level 1 DELF or a similar test follow the second phase. This phase consists of two units. Learners receive information about French culture language and exercises on expressing oneself in a topic of interest follow. At the end of the programme, learners are ready to take DELF 2 test.
DALF(Diplôme Approfondi de La Langue Française)
DALF is a diploma that those wishing to receive education in France or a French-speaking community are required to receive. Learners wishing to attend these courses are required to complete advanced level courses at TÖMER, prove to be at Advanced II level in the placement test, or hold DELF 2 Diploma. DALF programme at TÖMER includes a) Reading comprehension and writing, b) Listening comprehension, c) Reading comprehension and writing in the field of interest, d) Listening comprehension and speaking in the field of interest.
Texts from written and visual media are intensively used to help improve language skills mentioned above; moreover, learners receive training in techniques for analysis and synthesis.
DELE (International Spanish Language Level Evaluation Test) PREPARATION COURSES
The course content includes grammar, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and speaking. This content rests on a coursebook. Also, latest test samples designed by Cervantes Institute are also used.
CILS (International Italian Language Level Assessment Test) PREPARATION COURSES
The course content includes grammar, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, dialogue completion, and speaking. This content rests on a coursebook.
AIESEC
These courses are organised for Italian and Spanish languages. The course content includes grammar, synonyms, and speaking. Also, there are also exercises for question-solving.
ENGLISH COURSE FOR SOCIAL SCIENCES
The course content includes techniques for writing and presenting papers, translation of scientific texts, as well as exercises for ÜDS and KPDS tests. TUS (Test of Expertise in Medicine) AND MEDICAL TRANSLATION FROM TURKISH INTO ENGLISH These courses are for doctors and the doctor-to-be; course content includes studies in medicine and translation tasks.
