PUBLICATIONS Ankara University TÖMER Turkish and Foreign Languages Research and Application Centre has so far published a total of 8 periodicals on language, education, translation and literature: Edebiyat (İstanbul), Dil ve İnsan (Kayseri), Alleben (Gaziantep), TÖMER Çeviri (Bursa), Mavi Portakal (Antalya), Türk Lehçeleri (Tunalı Hilmi), Dil Dergisi (Central TÖMER), Anadili (İzmir). Of these, only Dil Dergisi is published today. In addition, TÖMER publishes papers presented in symposiums it organizes together with discussions on these papers. This ensures that these activities have an enduring effect. As a language research and application center of Ankara University, TÖMER has used its experience in producing its own course books. The HİTİT Turkish Set For Foreigners is an example, which was published in 2002. Starting from 2006, all content of these teaching materials was revised in accordance with the guidelines of Common European Framework. These course books named the new HİTİT Turkish Set For Foreigners were published in three sets. For each level a teacher’s book (intermediate and advanced levels teacher’s books will be published soon), course book, workbook, Listening Cassettes and Video Tapes are available. Having been published by Ankara University TÖMER since 1988, Dil Dergisi has reached a total of 139 issues. Dil Dergisi covers papers mainly in languages and linguistics, either directly linked with language learning and teaching, or beneficial for language learning and teaching. The current issue of Dil Dergisi includes such titles as “Dinleme edinimine ilişkin etkinliklerin değerlendirmesi” by Kamil İşeri and İbrahimYılmaz, “İbranice’nin yeniden doğuşu” by Bedrettin Aytaç, “Türkçe’nin Yabancı dil öğretiminde sınavlarınn hazırlanması ve Uygulanması” by Dursun Köse, “Lise öğrencilerinin İngilize öğrenimlerini etkileyen yabancıdil kaygısı ” by Aslı Doğan. Dil Dergisi can be obtained from TÖMER branches; there is also a subscription scheme available. It is also possible to get an access to Dil Dergisi content through TÜBİTAK-ULAKBİM Social Sciences Database. Published quarterly by Central Press and Publications Unit of Ankara University TÖMER, Dil Dergisi runs on editorial board basis. Special issues of Dil Dergisi have always been welcomed. Main titles of some of these issues include Doğan Aksan, Vüsat O. Bener, Doğan Hızlan, Attila İlhan, Hilmi Yavuz, Talât Sait Halman, Erdal Öz and “Yazılı ve Görsel Basında Türkçe’nin Görünümü”. Prepared by Ankara University TÖMER Izmir Branch, Anadili Dil Kültürü ve Eğitim Dergisi was published every four months between the years 1996-2005. (Issues between 22-33 were run on advisory board basis.) 36 issues were published. Anadili Dergisi included studies on education and linguistics, as well as literary works. Anadili Dergisi can be obtained from bookstores in those cities where there is a TÖMER branch or from TÖMER Branch itself; there is also a subscription scheme. Anadili Dergisi is 4 YTL per issue. BOOKS ON SYMPOSIUM PRESENTATIONS DÜNYA’DA ve TÜRKİYE’DE ANA DİLİ EĞİTİMİ The book includes papers presented in a symposium titled “Dünya’da ve Türkiye’de Ana Dili Eğitimi” in 1996; papers analyze mother tongue education in England, the USA, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Central Asian Turkic Republics and Turkey. Comparative analysis of coursebooks and lesson materials, education systems and targets in mother tongue education in countries concerned is presented. ULUSLARARASI DÜNYADA TÜRKÇE ÖĞRETİMİ TÖMER organized “Uluslararası Dünyada Türkçe Öğretimi” in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002; books on symposium papers include such topics as experiences of Turcologists from various institutions teaching Turkish, methods of teaching Turkish in these institutions, and discussions on ways of teaching Turkish more efficiently. 2000 YILINDA TÜRK ÖYKÜ ve ROMANI The book includes presentations submitted in “2000 Yılında Türk Öykü ve Romanı Sempozyumu” organized in 1999. Papers focus on the history of Turkish novel and story. Also included are such topics as how story and novel writing evolved and their current status. 1.ULUSAL ÇOCUK KİTAPLARI The book includes presentations submitted in “1. Ulusal Çocuk Kitapları Sempozyumu”, organized in 2000 by Ankara University TÖMER and the Faculty of Educational Sciences of Ankara University. Papers analyze on a scientific plane what needs to be done so that children can get an access to more quality books. TÜRKİYE’DE ELEŞTİRİ ve DENEME The book includes presentations submitted in “Türkiye’de Deneme ve Eleşiri Sempozyumu”, organized in 2000. Topics include the history of essay writing and criticism in Turkey, current problems in essay writing and criticism as literary genres, and suggestions. KURAMSAL ve UYGULAMALI ÇEVİRİ SORUNLARI The book includes presentations submitted in “Kuramsal ve Uygulamalı Çeviri Sorunları Sempozyumu”, organized in 2000 by TÖMER Bursa Branch. Papers focus on translation studies, current problems, and suggestions. 2000 YILINDA TÜRK ŞİİRİ The book includes presentations submitted in “2000 Yılında Türk Şiiri Sempozyumu”, organized in 2000. Such various poetry movements as “Divan” and “Popular” poetry, “Hececiler”, “İkinci Yeni”, “Garip” and many current strands are analyzed and papers analyze the current aspect of Turkish poetry. TÜRKÇENİN YURTTAŞI NAZIM HİKMET The book includes presentations submitted in “Türkçenin Yurttaşı Nazım Hikmet Sempozyumu”, organized in 2002 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Nazım Hikmet, one of the most important figures in Turkish poetry. The book includes papers on Nazım Hikmet’s life and poetry. DİL ve DİLİMİZ TÜRKÇE The book includes presentations submitted in “Dil ve Dilimiz Türkçe Sempozyumu”, organized in 2003 by Central TÖMER. Papers stress the idea that it is essential for the Turkish language to be purified, developed and made free from foreign language influences so that Turkey can keep up with the modern, civilized world.
TÖMER bulletin is published every four months. It covers our students, education institutions at home and abroad, current issues, academic studies, activities in Tömer branches, students’ and instructors’ observations and experiments on language teaching/learning. You can find an interview with an expert in education or with a high-ranking administrator in every issue. New publications in education are also introduced.
